AUTUMN GARDEN CHECK-LIST OF THINGS TO DO

** Remove this year’s annual plants.  Throw any diseased plants or leaves into the garbage.

** Rake up debris from garden site and pull any weeds.

** Trim down perennials that do not have seed heads, but  leave perennials with

      seed heads intact as these may provide winter food for birds or interest in

      the winter garden.

** Give newly planted cedars and shrubs a good drink of water before freeze-up.

** Be sure that any new perennials or bulbs are clearly marked.

** Clean and store garden implements and garden ornaments.

** Roll up and store garden hoses.

** Empty any water storage containers.

** Put clay pots into shed or garage; if they get wet and freeze they may crack.

** Empty and stack plastic containers.

** Leave some leaves in between shrubs or perennials to act as winter protection

       for the plants, and also winter homes for beneficial insects.
